Ten Million Dollars at Age Fifteen

Okay, you’re fifteen and in the eleventh grade. What should an ordinary teen be doing. The frequent answer is hanging out, going to the movies, maybe a practice or two, or the all-too-common answer, sleeping. That’s not what Michelle Wie is doing. Six days before her birthday, Wie made a big decision, a bigger decision than what to wear to school, or whether to do her homework.  The decision paves the rest of her life. Wie decided to become a professional golfer.  She made the decision to start accepting money. No, not six dollars an hour,  try ten million dollars, just on that Wednesday. As soon as she signed her deals, she became the highest paid female athlete in the term of endorsements. Signing deals with Nike and Sony that are believed to be worth ten million dollars a year, she immediately gave some of it back, donating $500,000 to the U.S. Golf Hurricane Relief Fund. Wouldn’t that be nice just to use $500,000 in pocket change as a sixteen year old?

Wie's life is now to be a whirlwind of golf on an international stage, in both women's and men's events, while fitting her pro schedule around high school.

"I'm finally happy to say I'm a pro starting today," said the Hawaiian teen.

"The first time I grabbed a golf club, I knew I’d do it for the rest of my life."

Could you imagine saying that at fifteen? Well, she did. Now she will have the world’s eyes on her watching every move she makes. Will she be able to handle it?
