Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride Review By: Troy Seymour Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride is about a young man named Victor (Johnny Depp) being set up for marriage by his wealthy parents to Victoria Everglot (Emily Watson), a girl whose parents are trying to attain social status by getting her to marry him. The only problem is that Victor’s parents don’t approve of her. They plan to get married, and at the ceremony rehearsal, Victor messes up the vows. He then runs out of the church and into a forest where he, while practicing his vows to various branches and bushes, accidentally places the ring on what he thinks is a stick in the ground. It winds up being the corpse of a bride-to-be who falls in love with him. Victor then has to choose whether to marry Victoria or marry the corpse bride. It’s hard to watch this movie and not think of Burton’s other film A Nightmare Before Christmas. While Corpse Bride has better visuals than Nightmare, the story and music don’t even come close. Corpse Bride doesn’t have all of the memorable characters that people have grown to love from Nightmare. While Corpse Bride is a very well-made film for all ages, it just can’t compare to Burton’s other movie. If this movie had the story and music of Nightmare, it would definitely become an instant classic. |
